The most glamorous of careers often hide the most piteous stories underneath. Lolo Jones, athlete of the USA and World hurdles, has earned this status after many years of dedication and perseverance. Jones was born to a motherless family that included five kids living suffering from poverty and hardships as a youngster, experienced an incredibly difficult childhood. Her mother was constantly moving and stayed for a while in the basement of the church. A life of constant movement forced Jones to switch to an entirely new school each year up until her first day of high school. Jones loved to participate in track and field events during her time at Theodore Roosevelt the high school lived in a different place from her mother so that she could pursue her interests. Jones lived with 4 different families to keep her study focused. Jones was awarded her the Gatorade Iowa Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award during her time at school.
